Top 4 Supplements to Try for Your Overall Health

by | Aug 23, 2017 | Nutrition

Now, more than ever, supplements have become all the rage. A diet that’s high in nutrients will deliver most of the vitamins and minerals you need. However, in today’s world, we’re exposed to lots of toxins, so it’s never a bad thing to ensure we have all the right nutrients in our bodies to help us cleanse and detox—and ultimately, stay healthy.

The world of supplements can be confusing, especially with so many brands and options on the market these days. It’s always important to consult with your doctor before adding any supplements to your diet, especially ones that might not be common. Here’s four supplements to try out for your overall health:

Omega 3 / DHA-EPA

Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid, commonly found in fish, and it has loads of benefits for your body. Most omega 3 supplements are derived from fish or fish oil, so if you’re vegan, you can try out DHA-EPA, which is the plant-based alternative to fish-based omega 3. It’s been proven to help prevent heart disease, arthritis and many other health issues, including those related to mental health. This is an excellent supplement to add as a preventative boost for your brain and heart each day.

Vitamin C

We all know vitamin C is crucial to keeping immunity high. Even though it’s best to get your vitamin C from fruits and veggies, it will only help your body if you also add it as a daily supplement. This way, your body is consistently getting a certain dosage of vitamin C. If you aren’t able to get all your fruits and veggies in for a day, this is an excellent supplement to fall back on. Our immune systems need support to stay strong and keep us from catching viruses and fighting off bacteria.

Magnesium

Ever feel like you need to unwind? In our fast-paced world, stress can become the norm and relaxation often takes a backseat. Magnesium is a great supplement to take before bed, as it helps your body calm down and relax. If you’ve ever taken an epsom salt bath, your body is soaking up magnesium from the salts, which will often leave you feeling soothed and sleepy. Adding in a magnesium supplement to your nightly routine might help you sleep more soundly.

Vitamin D

If you’re getting lots of sunshine everyday, then you can skip this one. But if you often find yourself indoors or if the sun hasn’t been shining for a few days in a row, then adding some vitamin D can help. Low levels of vitamin D lower your immunity, so adding it in as a supplement (based on how much sunshine you’re getting) can help you maintain good and consistent levels of vitamin D.
